What is the relationship between NetScaler and Citrix?
Citrix acquired NetScaler in 2005 in part to bolster the performance and security of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, which is virtualized desktop infrastructure (VDI) deployed on-premises to provide an organization’s workers with secure access to their applications from any device and any location. NetScaler became the gateway for secure remote access to Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops with its proprietary ICA Proxy and, by validating the device and user, provided context to restrict users to authorized applications.
Using NetScaler with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops implementations also enabled Citrix customers to scale their virtual application and desktop delivery environments. NetScaler provided high availability through global server load balancing (GSLB) functionality that ensured that the loss of a data center did not result in end users’ loss of productivity because they could not access their applications and desktops.
Today, NetScaler technology is the foundation for all Citrix VDI and secure access products. It is also used by enterprises that must rapidly scale customer-facing applications to support many concurrent users while delivering a seamless experience. Learn more about the evolution of NetScaler.
